WOODWORTH ONLINE LIBRARY
Books and newsletters downloadable from this site.

The Woodworth Family of America,
Descendants of Walter Woodworth of 1630 Through Six Generations -
by Jeanette Woodworth Behan, published 1988    (PDF file)

Information about availability of the online book was provided by Andrew Gillum to this web site.   The book has been digitized by the Boston Library.  In PDF format and word searchable.   Jim Behan, intellectual property rights owner, has released the book to public domain.  He requests that where the book is used that credit be given to the book in accordance with standard genealogy protocol.
Bob Jones has made digital modifications to the Boston Library PDF file to make the copy more convenient and efficient for users, as stated here.
I have done the following to the download - without making any word changes to the Boston version:

1) reduced the file size a bit from 73M to 69M
   2) changed it to open to single page reading; starting at the book cover not at the first numeric page
   3) rotated the four pages of longhand at the beginning and end - so they can be seen without twisting. They were
printed on the inside of the back and front hard covers
   4) adjusted the page numbering to match Jeanette's
   5) where Jeanette had no page numbers at the beginning and end, I added a series of numbers in the A, B, C, ..... style
.    There is also a section of i, ii, iii, iv .... etc. which she did have and they are now matched.
   6) the main body has numeric pages from 1 to 563 which now match exactly.
The last three changes refer to the way pdf documents show their page numbers.  Before they did not match with those on the scanned pages.

The Woodworth Family of America, Descendants of Walter Woodworth of 1630, Seventh Generation, Volume II, by Jeanette Woodworth Behan, released 9 April 2022   (PDF file)  This is the manuscript that Jeanette Behan was working on before she passed away.  Jim Behan had aided others with the information from the manuscript on request.   Jim provided a xerox copy to Marvin "Woody" Woodworth to aid others when Jim was away from home.   Woody gradually digitized the manuscript over the years, and added text that had been written in the margins.  As time passed, it was clear that the immense work and valuable data that Jeanette had performed must be made available to the Woodworth family to ensure future availability to the descendants of Walter Woodworth born 1608.  An effort was made to clean up the thousands of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) errors, add data that was included in the margins, make the manuscript adhere as closely as possible to Jeanette's intent, and then release the manuscript.  Jim Behan has approved release.
Index ("as-is") for the above:  Index for 7th generation

Walter Woodworth of Scituate, Mass   by William Atwater Woodworth, published 1898. Downloadable book.  The complete book is in word searchable, text based PDF format. (You'll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe to open this file.   Be sure to read the introduction regarding a Walter, Jr.  There was no Walter, Jr.

Famous Woodworth, Descendants of Thomas Woodworth, Born About 1640 and Joseph Woodworth, Born about 1644,
by Harry Ric  Downloadable book in PDF format. Size 47 MB.  Scanned images.  OCRd but many OCR errors.   Public domain.   Per a close relative of the author, the intent is to allow all to benefit from the works of Harry Rice.   "Harry's only daughter Pedie passed away in 2016, but I spoke to her about her father's book before she died.  As a librarian, she was keen on having her father's work made available, her only stipulation being that his name always be associated with it whenever posted".
NOTE:  Some of the index pages are out of order.  May work on getting them in order later, but wanted to get the book out now

Descendants of Walter Woodworth, Scituate, Mass. by Elijah B. Woodworth, published in 1901    This book, despite the title, is not the genealogy of Walter Woodworth, but rather of James Woodworth, great grandchild of Walter Woodworth (Walter 1> Benjamin 2> Benjamin 3> James 4 ). Downloadable book in PDF format.   Good information for 4th generation James down.   The book is fairly short ... 40 pages or so but graphics turn it into a fairly large 1.3 meg file.   Clarifying further, the book lists the children of Walter, but does not show the children of Walter's son Thomas nor who he married,  does not show the children of Walter's son Joseph nor who he married, does not show the children of Walter's son Isaac nor who he married, etc.

Life and Descendants of Selah Woodworth, 1750 - 1823, by Leon R. Brown, 1940.  Complete book shrunk down to "only" 13.2 megs in a PDF file.   Not OCRd, but has good resolution for "zoomability", or enlarging using PDF's zoom-in feature.

History of Scituate Massachusetts From Its First Settlement to 1851  by Rev Samuel Deane
Good history of Scituate, but contains an erroneous account of Benjamin and Walter, Jr.   Benjamin is claimed to have died in the King Philip (nn Indian Chief) but survived to be the executor of Walter's will.   Walter, Jr, never existed, and was caused by a missing Joseph in a Joseph-Joseph-Joseph line by the residents of Little Compton.  An alleged son "Robert" was never named in Walter's will.

The Woodworth Family Newsletter   Jeanette (Woodworth) Behan (deceased) published a series of twelve Woodworth newsletters, beginning in 1984 and ending in 1986.

Extracted data from Anderson's "The Great Migration" for Walter Woodworth    Applicable pages 414, 1681, 1683, and 2064 - 2067 in PDF format.

Samuel (the poet) Woodworth's "Woodworth Book"   Contains many of Rev Samuel Dean's errors, but still good info on other matters.  (PDF file) The foreword by Sam's grandson states that it is obvious that Samuel just had a fresh read of the error filled Samuel Dean's book.

Crossing the Plains   (PDF file. )    James Woodworth's diary of his 4 month wagon train journey to California.  Downloadable complete book. Using a US atlas map and James' descriptions, one can follow the actual route used by James' wagon train.

The Ledger of Lott Woodworth(PDF file) The business ledger of Lott Woodworth (Maj), woolen manufacturer, of Cambridge, NY. Line is Walter 1, Benjamin 2, Caleb 3, William 4, Lott 5.  Book is deteriorated and varies in legibility.  Book handed down to the webmeister and brothers Bill and Kirk.

The Diary of Deacon Elihu Woodworth 1835-1836  (PDF file) Paul Bumpas had this on his genealogy web site until it went "down".   Paul has given permission for this web site to host the Elihu diary.

Robert Bell and Lucy Zell Woodworth, Antecedents and Progeny, Facts and Anecdotes  by John Bell Woodworth.   (PDF file)  A genealogy book with photos and detailed comments   PDF file courtesy of the LDS.   (8.6 meg file.)   JBW's line is Walter>Benjamin>Caleb>William>Lott>William>MalcomWilliam>RobertBell>JohnBell
NOTE:  The last page is a circular genealogy chart.  Use PDF's zoom feature for this page to enlarge for legibility.

The Early Planters of Scituate by Harvey Hunter Pratt.  Published by the Scituate Historical Society 1929. (PDF file)  A history of the town of Scituate, Massachusetts, from its establishment to the end of the Revolutionary War.
Word searchable PDF file.  Includes references to Walter and his sons.    Information provided by Keith Berry.

King Philips War.   The early colonialists' misunderstandings with natives led to war with King Philip (Puritans' name for Chief Metacomet) and the Massanoit.

Ledger of William Woodworth b 1734/35 and Descendants in one PDF file.
Ledger of William Woodworth b 1734/35 and descendants in single page files    William is of the line  (4) William   b. Jan 4, 1734/35, (3) Caleb     b. May 22, 1704, (2) Benjamin  b. abt 1649, (1) Walter Woodworth
I am now certain that the author of the ledger is Julia Woodworth Crouch, daughter of Calvin Van Kirk Woodowrth, Sr.   The initials "JWC" are used throughout the ledger which would be her initials.    She visited her brother Calvin Van Kirk Woodworth, Jr, (my grandfather) in Minco, Ok, in the early 1900s and a left a ledger with him that is very similar in content and penmanship.   She was also a DAR.   I grew up with about four paintings of hers on several walls in the house in Minco.
The person on the front of the ledger, Ruth Pederson, appears to be unrelated to Woodworths.  Julia Woodworth Crouch died in Baraboo, WI, with no living family, and the ledger from the estate may have found its way to Ruth Pederson Paulson, also of Wisconsin, who made the effort to find a proper "home" for the ledger.and did so in 1979.
A CD of the scanned ledger was provided by Sara Curtis, descendant of William Woodworth b 1734/1735.

WOODWORTH MANUSCRIPT available through LDS

Unpublished Walter Woodworth manuscripts  Maurice Woodworth, James Pearce, and Jeanette Behan released unpublished manuscripts sometime in the late 1970s or or early 1980s at locations around the US that form the basis of Jeanette's book, but to which she later added much more information and updated material in her Volume 1.  What is different from her book is that her Volume 1 listed generations 1-6, and the manuscripts covered generations 1 through 12 in separate volumes based on the sons of Walter.   Susan Moore lists here the information regarding those manuscripts.  These can be ordered as "loaners" from Salt Lake City to local LDS history centers:
